Strict Pause Mode

If like us, you are a champion of the workaround and have figured out that deleting PauseBox or revoking Screen Time access is the easiest way to escape a Pause session, we have a solution for you: Strict Pause Mode.

Strict Pause Mode is our "Ironclad" setting. It disables your ability to delete the app entirely while a session is active and utilizes an iOS Shortcut automation to physically prevent you from reaching the "Revoke Access" toggle in your system settings. Once the box is sealed, it stays sealed.

How to use it:

1. Enable the Mode: On the PauseBox main screen, click the Gear Icon (Settings) and toggle on "Enable Strict Pause Mode."

2. Select Shortcuts: In the app blocker screen, make sure to select the Shortcuts app in your list of blocked apps.
If you haven't downloaded the Shortcuts app yet, you can get it here: Download Shortcuts on the App Store.

Why the Shortcut is Necessary

Apple provides developers with tools to block most apps, but they intentionally leave the Settings app accessible so users don't accidentally "brick" their own phones. This creates a loophole where you can manually turn off PauseBox's permissions mid-session.

By setting up a Shortcut Automation, we create a "Bouncer" that watches for whenever you try to enter or exit Settings. If Strict Pause Mode is active, the shortcut instantly pulls you back into PauseBox before you can change any permissions.

Step-by-Step Automation Setup:

1. Download the Shortcut: Tap this link to add the block to your library: PauseBox Settings Block.

2. Open Automations: Open the Shortcuts app, tap the Automation tab at the bottom, and click the + (or "Create Personal Automation").

3. Choose the Trigger: Search for "App" and select it.

4. Configure the Settings App:

- Tap Choose and select the Settings app.

- CRITICAL: Uncheck "Is Opened" and CHECK "Is Closed".

- Select "Run Immediately" and ensure "Notify When Run" is Off.

- Tap Next.

5. Assign the Action: Search for and select the "PauseBox Settings Block" shortcut you just downloaded.

6. Strict Mode Fully Enabled: Now, whenever you try to tamper with permissions in Settings, the "Is Closed" trigger will catch the system's identity check and bounce you back to your Pause session.
